MAINTENANCE FREE BATTERIES
With maintenance free, if the electrical system malfunctions, the electrolyte may go dry, and there is no way of replacing it! There is no way of checking the electrolyte level, nor is there a reliable way of determining the state of charge of the battery. Only an experienced technician can determine the state of charge with a high quality voltmeter. Yes, you will have the first of trouble when the battery starts to fail.
LOW MAINTENANCE BATTERIES
Regular or low maintenance batteries are a must for marine equipment. The condition of the battery can easily be checked by taking hydrometer readings of each cell. The hydrometer readings will reveal the state of charge as well as possible trouble. Impending failure can be avoided by regularly checking the battery condition with a hydrometer.
